Blockers (Inhibitors)
Blockers, also known as inhibitors, are substances that prevent or reduce the activity of specific biological processes or reactions. They can interfere with enzymes, receptors, or other molecules, effectively slowing down or stopping certain functions within cells. This property makes blockers useful in various medical treatments, such as managing diseases or conditions.
In pharmacology, blockers are often used to describe medications that inhibit specific pathways. For example, beta-blockers are commonly prescribed to manage high blood pressure by blocking the effects of adrenaline on the heart. Similarly, ACE inhibitors help lower blood pressure by preventing the formation of a hormone that narrows blood vessels.
