Blazars
A blazar is a type of active galactic nucleus (AGN) that emits powerful jets of particles toward Earth. These jets are produced by supermassive black holes at the center of galaxies, such as those found in the Milky Way. Blazars are characterized by their variability in brightness and strong emissions across the electromagnetic spectrum, including radio, optical, and gamma rays.
The unique orientation of a blazar's jet, which is pointed directly at our planet, makes it particularly interesting to astronomers. This alignment allows for the study of extreme physical processes occurring near black holes. Blazars are important for understanding the behavior of black holes and the evolution of galaxies.
