Black Kettle
Black Kettle was a prominent leader of the Southern Cheyenne tribe during the mid-19th century. He is best known for his efforts to promote peace between Native Americans and European settlers, advocating for coexistence and understanding during a time of significant conflict.
In 1864, Black Kettle and his people were involved in the Sand Creek Massacre, where a peaceful encampment was attacked by U.S. troops. Despite his attempts to negotiate peace, this tragic event highlighted the tensions and violence faced by Native American tribes during westward expansion in the United States.
