Bitterns
Bitterns are large, secretive birds belonging to the family Ardeidae, which also includes herons and egrets. They are typically found in wetlands, marshes, and reed beds, where they use their camouflaged plumage to blend in with their surroundings. Bitterns are known for their distinctive booming calls, especially during the breeding season.
These birds primarily feed on fish, amphibians, and invertebrates, using their long necks and sharp bills to catch prey. There are several species of bitterns, with the American Bittern and the Eurasian Bittern being the most well-known. Their populations are often threatened by habitat loss and pollution.
