Bishop Desmond Tutu
Bishop Desmond Tutu was a South African Anglican bishop and social rights activist known for his work in the fight against apartheid. Born on October 7, 1931, he became the first Black Archbishop of Cape Town and was a prominent leader in the South African Council of Churches. Tutu advocated for nonviolent resistance and played a crucial role in promoting reconciliation in post-apartheid South Africa.
In 1984, Tutu was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end racial segregation and promote human rights. He also chaired the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which aimed to address the injustices of apartheid. Tutu passed away on December 26, 2021, leaving a legacy of peace and justice.
