Bingham Canyon
Bingham Canyon, also known as the Bingham Canyon Mine, is one of the largest open-pit copper mines in the world. Located in Utah, it has been in operation since the late 19th century and is known for its significant copper production. The mine is approximately 2.5 miles wide and over 3,500 feet deep, making it a remarkable engineering feat.
The mine is part of the Oquirrh Mountains and is operated by Rio Tinto, a global mining company. Bingham Canyon has also produced other valuable minerals, including gold and silver. Its massive scale and ongoing operations have made it a key contributor to the local economy and the global copper supply.
