Biliary Colic
Biliary colic is a type of pain caused by the obstruction of the bile ducts, often due to gallstones. This condition typically results in sudden, intense pain in the upper right abdomen, which may radiate to the back or right shoulder. The pain usually occurs after eating fatty meals and can last from a few minutes to several hours.
The gallbladder, a small organ that stores bile produced by the liver, plays a key role in digestion. When gallstones block the bile ducts, the pressure builds up, leading to biliary colic. Treatment options may include dietary changes, medication, or surgical procedures like cholecystectomy to remove the gallbladder.
