Bilby
The bilby is a small, nocturnal marsupial native to Australia. It has large ears, a long snout, and a distinctive silky fur coat that is usually gray or brown. Bilbies are known for their burrowing habits, creating extensive tunnel systems in sandy soils. They primarily feed on insects, seeds, and bulbs, playing an important role in their ecosystem.
Once widespread, the bilby population has declined significantly due to habitat loss and predation by introduced species like cats and foxes. Conservation efforts are underway to protect this unique animal, including breeding programs and habitat restoration initiatives.
