Beta Crucis
Beta Crucis, also known as Acrux, is the brightest star in the constellation Crux, commonly known as the Southern Cross. It is located approximately 320 light-years away from Earth and is classified as a blue giant star. Its brightness and distinctive position make it a key navigational star in the southern hemisphere.
Acrux is actually a binary star system, consisting of two stars that orbit each other. The primary star is about 8.5 times more massive than the Sun, while the secondary star is slightly less massive. Together, they contribute to the star's overall brightness and prominence in the night sky.
