Bessarabia is a historical region located in Eastern Europe, primarily situated between the Dniester River to the east and the Prut River to the west. It is currently divided between Moldova and Ukraine. The area has a rich cultural heritage, influenced by various civilizations, including the Ottoman Empire and the Russian Empire. Throughout its history, Bessarabia has experienced numerous territorial changes. It was part of Moldavia before being annexed by the Russian Empire in the 19th century. After World War I, it briefly became part of Romania, only to be incorporated into the Soviet Union in 1940. Today, Bessarabia's diverse population includes Romanians, Ukrainians, and Russians.
