Bernie Webber was a United States Coast Guard officer known for his heroic actions during a rescue mission in 1952. He was born on May 19, 1928, in Worcester, Massachusetts. Webber is best remembered for leading a small crew in a daring rescue of the crew of the SS Pendleton, a tanker that had split in half during a severe storm off the coast of Cape Cod.
On February 18, 1952, Webber and his team braved treacherous seas in a 36-foot lifeboat to save the stranded sailors. Despite the dangerous conditions, they successfully rescued 32 men, showcasing extraordinary courage and skill. Webber's actions earned him the Gold Lifesaving Medal and recognition as a hero in the Coast Guard.
