Bernard Leach
Bernard Leach was a British potter and ceramic artist, born in 1887 and known as the "father of British studio pottery." He played a significant role in introducing Eastern pottery techniques to the West, particularly through his time in Japan, where he studied traditional pottery methods. His work emphasized the importance of craftsmanship and the beauty of handmade objects.
Leach co-founded the Leach Pottery in St. Ives, Cornwall, in 1920, which became a center for pottery education and innovation. He published several influential books on ceramics, promoting the idea that pottery should be both functional and artistic. His legacy continues to inspire potters and artists around the world.
