Bergstrom Air Force Base
Bergstrom Air Force Base was a military installation located in Austin, Texas. Established in 1942, it served primarily as a training base for various aircraft and personnel during its operational years. The base played a significant role during the Cold War, housing several fighter and reconnaissance squadrons.
In 1993, Bergstrom was closed as part of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process. The site has since been repurposed and is now home to the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, which serves as a major transportation hub for the region. The base's legacy continues to be remembered in the local community.
