Benue-Congo Languages
The Benue-Congo languages are a branch of the larger Niger-Congo language family, primarily spoken in central and southern Nigeria, as well as parts of Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This group includes several major languages, such as Yoruba, Igbo, and Idoma, which are known for their rich cultural heritage and diverse dialects.
These languages are characterized by their use of tonal distinctions, meaning that the pitch of a word can change its meaning. The Benue-Congo languages play a significant role in the identity and communication of millions of speakers, contributing to the linguistic diversity of the region.
