Benjamin G. Humphreys
Benjamin G. Humphreys was an American politician and a member of the Democratic Party. He served as the 16th Governor of Mississippi from 1865 to 1866 during the Reconstruction era following the American Civil War. His tenure was marked by efforts to restore the state’s governance and address the challenges of post-war recovery.
Humphreys was born on January 1, 1825, in Tennessee and later moved to Mississippi, where he became involved in local politics. After his governorship, he continued to influence state politics and served in various capacities, including as a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives. He passed away on December 12, 1882.
