Benham Rise
Benham Rise is an underwater plateau located in the western Pacific Ocean, east of the Philippines. It covers an area of approximately 13 million hectares and is known for its rich marine biodiversity. The rise is part of the Philippine continental shelf and is believed to have significant natural resources, including minerals and potential energy reserves.
In 2012, the United Nations Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf granted the Philippines extended rights over the Benham Rise, recognizing it as part of the country's continental shelf. This designation allows the Philippines to explore and utilize the resources in the area while promoting environmental protection and sustainable development.
