Bengali Calendar
The Bengali Calendar, also known as the Bengali Panjika, is a solar calendar used primarily in the regions of Bengal, including Bangladesh and the Indian state of West Bengal. It consists of 12 months, starting with Chaitra and ending with Falgun. The calendar is about 593 days ahead of the Gregorian Calendar, making it unique in its structure and cultural significance.
The Bengali New Year, or Pohela Boishakh, is celebrated on the first day of the month Boishakh, usually falling in mid-April. This day marks the beginning of the agricultural year and is a time for festivities, feasting, and cultural events. The calendar plays a vital role in the daily lives of Bengali people, guiding their agricultural practices, festivals, and religious observances.
