Beluga sturgeon
The Beluga sturgeon is a large fish species native to the Caspian Sea and Black Sea basins. It is known for its impressive size, often reaching lengths of up to 20 feet (6 meters) and weighing over 2,000 pounds (900 kg). This ancient fish is recognized for its distinctive elongated body and a snout that resembles a paddle.
Beluga sturgeons are famous for producing caviar, a delicacy made from their eggs. Due to overfishing and habitat loss, they are critically endangered, prompting conservation efforts to protect their populations. Their long lifespan can exceed 100 years, making them one of the oldest living fish species.
