Battle of Valcour Island
The Battle of Valcour Island took place on October 11, 1776, during the American Revolutionary War. It was a naval engagement between the forces of the Continental Army, led by Benedict Arnold, and the British fleet commanded by Guy Carleton. The battle occurred on Lake Champlain, near Valcour Island, in present-day New York.
Despite being outnumbered, Arnold's forces fought bravely but ultimately had to retreat. The battle delayed the British advance into the northern colonies, allowing the Americans time to strengthen their defenses. This engagement is considered a significant moment in the early stages of the war.
