Battle of Ninety-Six
The Battle of Ninety-Six was a significant conflict during the American Revolutionary War, fought from May 22 to June 18, 1781, in present-day South Carolina. It was part of the larger campaign to gain control over the southern colonies. The battle involved American Patriot forces, led by General Nathanael Greene, attempting to capture a British stronghold at Ninety-Six.
The British, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel John Cruger, defended the fortifications against the Patriot siege. Despite the Americans' efforts, the battle ended without a decisive victory for either side, leading to a withdrawal by Greene's forces. This engagement highlighted the challenges faced by the Patriots in their fight for independence.
