Battle of Kulikovo
The Battle of Kulikovo took place on September 8, 1380, between the forces of the Grand Duchy of Moscow and the Mongol Golden Horde. This significant battle marked a turning point in Russian history, as it symbolized the beginning of the decline of Mongol influence over Russia. The Russian army, led by Dmitry Donskoy, faced the Mongol forces commanded by Mamai.
The battle occurred near the Don River in present-day Russia. Although the Russians won, the victory did not immediately free them from Mongol rule, which continued for several more decades. The battle is celebrated in Russian culture as a symbol of unity and resistance against foreign domination.
