Battle of Guilford Courthouse
The Battle of Guilford Courthouse was a significant engagement during the American Revolutionary War, fought on March 15, 1781, in present-day Greensboro, North Carolina. The battle pitted British forces, led by General Cornwallis, against American troops commanded by General Greene. Although the British won the battle, they suffered heavy casualties, which weakened their overall strength in the southern campaign.
The battle is notable for its tactical complexity, as the American forces employed a strategy of retreating to preserve their army. This approach ultimately contributed to the British defeat at the Siege of Yorktown later that year, marking a turning point in the war.
