Battle of Fort Necessity
The Battle of Fort Necessity took place on July 3, 1754, during the early stages of the French and Indian War. It was fought between British colonial forces, led by George Washington, and French troops along with their Native American allies. The battle occurred at a makeshift fort built by Washington in present-day Pennsylvania.
Despite being outnumbered, Washington and his men defended the fort for several hours. However, they eventually surrendered due to heavy artillery fire and the threat of encirclement. This battle marked the first significant military engagement for Washington and highlighted the escalating conflict between the British and French in North America.
