Battle of Denmark Strait
The Battle of Denmark Strait took place on May 24, 1941, during World War II. It was a naval engagement between the British Royal Navy and the German Kriegsmarine. The battle is most famous for the sinking of the British battlecruiser HMS Hood, which was one of the largest warships of its time, by the German battleship Bismarck.
The confrontation occurred in the Denmark Strait, located between Greenland and Iceland. The British aimed to intercept the Bismarck, which posed a significant threat to Allied shipping. Despite the loss of the Hood, the British eventually succeeded in tracking down and sinking the Bismarck shortly after the battle.
