Battle of Corydon
The Battle of Corydon took place on July 9, 1863, during the American Civil War. It was fought in Corydon, Indiana, between Union forces and Confederate troops led by General John Hunt Morgan. The battle was part of Morgan's Raid, where Confederate cavalry aimed to disrupt Union supply lines in the Midwest.
The Union defenders, numbering around 400 men, were primarily local militia. Despite their efforts, they were outnumbered and ultimately defeated by Morgan's forces, which included about 2,400 cavalrymen. The battle marked the only significant Civil War engagement in Indiana and highlighted the reach of Confederate operations into Northern territory.
