Battle of Arnhem
The Battle of Arnhem was a significant military engagement during World War II, part of Operation Market Garden, which took place in September 1944. The battle aimed to secure key bridges in the Netherlands to allow Allied forces to advance into Germany. British forces, particularly the 1st Airborne Division, were tasked with capturing the Arnhem bridge but faced fierce resistance from German troops.
Despite initial successes, the Allies were unable to hold the bridge due to logistical challenges and strong German counterattacks. The battle ended in a costly defeat for the Allies, with many soldiers killed or captured, marking a setback in their campaign to liberate Europe.
