The Bathyscaphe Trieste is a deep-sea submersible that was designed to explore the ocean's depths. Built in the 1950s, it is famous for reaching the deepest part of the world's oceans, known as the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench. The vessel was constructed to withstand extreme pressure and was equipped with scientific instruments for underwater research.
On January 23, 1960, the Trieste made its historic descent, piloted by Jacques Piccard and Don Walsh. They reached a depth of about 36,000 feet (approximately 10,900 meters), making it one of the most significant achievements in ocean exploration. The mission provided valuable data about the deep-sea environment.
