Barter Theatre
Barter Theatre is a historic performing arts venue located in Abingdon, Virginia. Founded in 1933, it is known as one of the oldest professional regional theaters in the United States. The theater gained fame for its unique barter system, allowing patrons to exchange goods and services for tickets, which helped sustain it during the Great Depression.
Today, Barter Theatre produces a variety of performances, including classic plays, musicals, and original works. It features two main stages and attracts audiences from across the region, contributing to the cultural landscape of Southwest Virginia and promoting the arts in the community.
