Barbareño language
The Barbareño language is a member of the Chumashan language family, historically spoken by the Barbareño people, an Indigenous group from the central coast of California. This language was primarily used in the region around present-day Santa Barbara and the surrounding areas.
Barbareño is now considered extinct, with the last fluent speakers having passed away in the 20th century. However, efforts are being made to revitalize the language through documentation and educational programs, aiming to preserve the cultural heritage of the Chumash people and their linguistic history.
