Balto
Balto was a famous sled dog who became a hero in 1925 when he led a team of sled dogs on a treacherous journey to deliver medicine to the remote town of Nome, Alaska. The town was facing a diphtheria outbreak, and the only way to transport the life-saving serum was by dog sled across harsh winter conditions.
Balto's team covered over 600 miles in just five and a half days, braving blizzards and freezing temperatures. Their successful mission helped save many lives, and Balto became a symbol of courage and determination. A statue of him stands in New York City's Central Park to honor his legacy.
