Balkan lynx
The Balkan lynx is a subspecies of the Eurasian lynx, primarily found in the mountainous regions of the Balkans. It is characterized by its tufted ears, short tail, and spotted fur, which helps it blend into its forested habitat. This elusive feline primarily preys on small to medium-sized mammals, such as roe deer and hares.
The population of the Balkan lynx is critically endangered, with estimates suggesting fewer than 250 individuals remain in the wild. Conservation efforts are underway to protect its habitat and promote awareness about the importance of preserving this unique species in the Balkan Peninsula.
