Baird's Beaked Whale
Baird's Beaked Whale is a large marine mammal found in deep ocean waters, primarily in the North Pacific. It can grow up to 12 meters (39 feet) long and is known for its elongated body and prominent beak. These whales are often spotted in groups and are known for their deep diving abilities, reaching depths of over 1,500 meters (4,900 feet) in search of squid and fish.
This species is named after the American naturalist Spencer Fullerton Baird, who contributed to marine biology in the 19th century. Baird's Beaked Whale is not well-studied, making it difficult to assess its population status, but it is considered vulnerable due to threats like entanglement in fishing gear and noise pollution from ships.
