BOOTLEG (Illicit)
BOOTLEG refers to the illegal production, distribution, or sale of goods, particularly alcohol or copyrighted materials. The term originated during the Prohibition era in the United States (1920-1933), when the manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages were banned. Bootleggers would secretly transport and sell alcohol, often using hidden compartments in vehicles.
In modern contexts, bootlegging can also apply to the unauthorized copying and distribution of music, movies, or software. This practice infringes on intellectual property rights and can lead to legal consequences for those involved. Related topics include copyright law, intellectual property, and Prohibition.
