Büyükşehir
Büyükşehir is a term used in Turkey to refer to a metropolitan municipality. These municipalities are larger urban areas that encompass a city and its surrounding districts, providing a range of services and governance to a significant population. The concept was established to improve urban management and development in densely populated regions.
In Turkey, there are currently 30 Büyükşehir municipalities, including major cities like Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir. Each Büyükşehir has its own mayor and council, responsible for local administration, infrastructure, and public services, ensuring that the needs of residents are met effectively.
