Azhwars
The Azhwars are a group of twelve Tamil poet-saints from South India, revered in the Vaishnavism tradition. They lived between the 6th and 9th centuries and are known for their devotional hymns dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Their works, primarily in the Tamil language, express deep love and devotion, emphasizing the importance of surrendering to God.
Each Azhwar contributed unique perspectives on spirituality and devotion, often sharing personal experiences of divine love. Their hymns form a significant part of the Nalayira Divya Prabandham, a collection of sacred texts that are central to the worship practices in Vaishnavite temples.
