Azerbaijan Democratic Republic
The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was established in 1918, becoming the first democratic republic in the Muslim world. It emerged after the collapse of the Russian Empire and aimed to create a modern state based on democratic principles, including suffrage for women, which was a significant achievement at the time.
The republic lasted until 1920 when it was invaded by the Soviet Union. Despite its short existence, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic laid the groundwork for future political developments in Azerbaijan and is remembered for its efforts to promote democracy and national identity.
