Avestan Language
The Avestan language is an ancient Iranian language that was used primarily in the sacred texts of Zoroastrianism, known as the Avesta. It is part of the larger family of Indo-Iranian languages and is closely related to Sanskrit and Old Persian. Avestan is notable for its complex grammar and rich vocabulary, which reflect the religious and philosophical ideas of early Zoroastrian thought.
Avestan is divided into two main dialects: Old Avestan and Young Avestan. Old Avestan is used in the oldest texts, while Young Avestan appears in later writings. The language is primarily preserved in written form, and its study provides valuable insights into the history, culture, and beliefs of ancient Persia.
