Autodefensas
The term "Autodefensas" refers to community self-defense groups that emerged in Mexico, primarily in response to violence from drug cartels and organized crime. These groups are formed by local citizens who take up arms to protect their communities when they feel that law enforcement is ineffective or corrupt.
Autodefensas often operate in regions heavily affected by drug trafficking, such as Michoacán and Guerrero. While some view them as necessary protectors, others criticize them for potentially perpetuating violence and undermining the rule of law. The situation surrounding these groups remains complex and controversial.
