Australian Heritage Council
The Australian Heritage Council is a statutory body established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Its primary role is to advise the Australian Government on the protection and management of places with significant heritage value. The Council assesses nominations for the National Heritage List and the Commonwealth Heritage List, ensuring that important cultural and natural sites are preserved for future generations.
The Council comprises members with expertise in various fields, including history, archaeology, and architecture. It works closely with other organizations, such as the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment, to promote awareness and appreciation of Australia's diverse heritage, which includes Indigenous sites and historic buildings.
