Austin-class
The Austin-class is a type of amphibious transport dock ship used by the United States Navy. Designed to support amphibious operations, these ships can carry troops, vehicles, and equipment. They are equipped with a well deck for launching and recovering landing craft and have a flight deck for helicopters.
Commissioned in the 1970s, the Austin-class ships played a vital role in various military operations. They are named after cities, with the lead ship being the USS Austin (LPD-4). Although newer classes like the San Antonio-class have since been introduced, the Austin-class remains significant in naval history.
