Attica Correctional Facility
Attica Correctional Facility is a maximum-security prison located in Attica, New York. Opened in 1931, it is known for housing some of the most dangerous criminals in the state. The facility has a capacity of approximately 2,000 inmates and is designed to maintain strict security measures to prevent escapes and maintain order.
The prison gained national attention during the Attica Prison Riot in 1971, when inmates took control of the facility to protest conditions and demand reforms. The riot lasted for several days and ended with a violent confrontation between law enforcement and inmates, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries. Today, Attica continues to operate as a high-security institution.
