Attentional Blink
Attentional Blink is a phenomenon in cognitive psychology where a person has difficulty noticing a second target stimulus if it appears shortly after the first one. Typically, this effect occurs within a time window of about 200 to 500 milliseconds after the first target is detected. During this brief period, the brain is still processing the first stimulus, leading to a temporary lapse in attention.
This effect highlights the limitations of human attention and perception. In experiments, participants often miss the second target when it appears too soon after the first, demonstrating how our cognitive resources can be overwhelmed. Understanding Attentional Blink can help improve strategies for information processing in various fields, including education and design.
