Atrax robustus
Atrax robustus, commonly known as the Sydney funnel-web spider, is a highly venomous spider native to eastern Australia. It is easily recognized by its glossy black body and large fangs. This spider prefers moist environments, often found in gardens, forests, and under rocks or logs.
The venom of Atrax robustus is known to be particularly dangerous to humans, causing severe symptoms if bitten. However, antivenom is available and has significantly reduced fatalities. These spiders are also known for their distinctive funnel-shaped webs, which they use to trap prey, primarily insects.
