Atatürk Dam
The Atatürk Dam is a large embankment dam located on the Euphrates River in southeastern Turkey. Completed in 1990, it is one of the largest dams in the world and plays a crucial role in the country's water management and energy production. The dam is part of the Southeastern Anatolia Project, which aims to improve irrigation and generate hydroelectric power.
The reservoir created by the Atatürk Dam, known as the Atatürk Lake, covers an area of approximately 817 square kilometers. This lake not only supports agricultural activities in the region but also provides recreational opportunities. The dam significantly contributes to Turkey's economy by enhancing agricultural productivity and supplying renewable energy.
