Asteroid 25143
Asteroid 25143, also known as Itokawa, is a near-Earth asteroid that belongs to the Apollo group. It was discovered on September 26, 1998, by the Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR) program. This asteroid is approximately 0.33 kilometers in diameter and has an irregular shape, resembling a peanut.
Itokawa gained significant attention when the Hayabusa spacecraft from JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) visited it in 2005. The mission successfully collected samples from the asteroid's surface and returned them to Earth in 2010, providing valuable insights into the composition and history of asteroids.
