Asteroid 1003
Asteroid 1003, also known as Asteroid 1003 Phaethon, is a near-Earth object that belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids. Discovered in 1983, it has a diameter of approximately 5.1 kilometers and orbits the Sun every 1.4 years. Its orbit brings it close to Earth, making it an object of interest for astronomers.
This asteroid is notable for its unusual characteristics, including a comet-like tail, which suggests it may be a dormant comet. Asteroid 1003 is also associated with the Geminid meteor shower, as debris from its path contributes to the annual display of shooting stars in December.
