Association for the Study of African American Life and History
The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1915 by historian Carter G. Woodson. Its mission is to promote, research, and disseminate information about the history and culture of African Americans. ASALH plays a crucial role in preserving African American history and advocating for its inclusion in educational curricula.
ASALH is best known for establishing Black History Month, celebrated every February. The organization hosts conferences, publishes scholarly works, and provides resources for educators and the public. Through these efforts, ASALH aims to enhance understanding and appreciation of African American contributions to society.
