Ashik
Ashik is a traditional form of folk music and poetry found in regions of Turkey, Azerbaijan, and parts of the Middle East. It is characterized by the performance of songs that express love, nature, and social issues, often accompanied by a stringed instrument called the saz. The performers, known as ashiks, are skilled musicians and poets who improvise lyrics and melodies.
The art of Ashik has deep cultural roots and is often passed down through generations. It plays a significant role in local celebrations and gatherings, serving as a means of storytelling and preserving cultural heritage. In 2009, Ashik was recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
