Ashanti Wars
The Ashanti Wars were a series of conflicts between the Ashanti Empire and the British Empire in the late 19th century. The wars primarily arose from British attempts to expand their control over the Ashanti territory, which is located in present-day Ghana. The first major conflict began in 1824, with subsequent wars occurring in 1863, 1874, and 1900, as the British sought to suppress Ashanti resistance.
The most notable of these conflicts was the War of the Golden Stool in 1900, which was sparked by British demands for the Ashanti royal symbol, the Golden Stool. The Ashanti people fiercely defended their sovereignty, leading to significant battles. Ultimately, the British emerged victorious, leading to the annexation of the Ashanti Empire and its incorporation into the Gold Coast colony.
