Arrest Procedures
Arrest procedures are the steps law enforcement officers follow when detaining a person suspected of a crime. Typically, an officer must have probable cause, which means they have reasonable grounds to believe the individual has committed an offense. The officer will identify themselves, inform the person they are under arrest, and explain the reason for the arrest.
Once the arrest is made, the individual is usually handcuffed for safety and transported to a police station. There, they will be booked, which involves recording personal information and the details of the alleged crime. The arrested person has the right to remain silent and to seek legal counsel, as outlined in the Miranda Rights.
